(Society of the Colonial Wars coat-of-arms) March 16, 1920 My dear Mr. Hill: In reply to your letter of the fourth, I would say that, according to the notes submitted by you, the following would be eligible propositi for the Society of the Colonial Wars in Virginia: Philip Walker. John Howland, John (?) Tilley, George Dennison, Jonathan Wilmarth. The enclosed paper, however, will inform you as to exactly what constitutes an eligible ancestor. It is, strictly speaking, required that the applicant be known personally to his two endorsers: but I may whisper that the rule has not always been enforced, and that letters of recommendation would be acceptable. Yours faithfully, James Branch Cabell Dumbarton Grange Dumbarton, Virginia ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved.
