Harriman, Tennessee, April 12, 1921. My dear Miss Armstrong:- Thank you so much for your letter of Monday and for sending the Maryland Book. I will take good care of it and return as soon as I can. In the meantime if you need it don’t hesitate to say so. I am still at work on the Reese line. Have not yet found the data I want, but feel sure I will. You now how much time these things take. Will keep you posted about this. Who wrote the article on the Howard family, in your book? I hope you did for then you may be able to help me with a question. Who were the parents of Samuel Howard of North Carolina who married Martha Lewis? They lived in Morgan Co. Tenn., and kept a tavern. Samuel & Martha Lewis Howard had a son Nathaniel Howard who married Christine Cook of Rosses Landing (Chattanooga) Tenn. If, between us we can work up this connection with the Benjamin Howard of Wilkes Co. N.C., I feel sure we can work it to advantage. Please let me know if you have any data that will help. You mentioned that you had more data on the Donelson family, for your second book. Have you this data in shape that you could send it to me? I am looking for a connection between the Eaton family of Eatons X Roads to the Donelsons, some Donelson who had service good for C. D. papers. A Miss Eaton of Eatons X. roads married a Henry McPherson, and I must connect this Miss Eaton with the Donelson's to make it worth any thing to me. You will remember I told you I was looking for King records too. Have you the King notes in shape to send me? Is there any Colonial services in the line you have? I will be so glad to hear from you regarding these matters. I am enclosing a copy of my sister's D.A.R. paper on the service of Wm. Hill Sr. I am glad to give it to you for a D.A.R. bar, but for goodness sake don’t pass it on to any one else, as this very service is good for a C.D. paper in the N.C. Society. Please make your cousin or whatever she is, promise not to give this to any one else. I have spent no end of time and a lot of money getting up these Hill records, and I don't feel that I can afford to give them away. See if you can get this cousin lined up for C.D. papers on this line. Yours very truly, CKH/K ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
