Harriman, Tennessee, April 14, 1921. My dear Miss Armstrong:- Thanks for your letters of the 11th and the Maryland book, which came to-day. I have not yet had a chance to look over the book and don’t suppose I will for a few days as I am going to Knoxville tomorrow for two or three days, on business, but will get into it as soon as I can. Please do your best to unearth the Howard data we need, as I think this could be worked to as good if not better advant- age than the Cory matter. As long as you feel about my help- ing you as you do, suppose you wait a few days before you say any thing to Mrs. C. about this matter. The Howard data may be found and then I may get the needed dope from Mrs. Stephenson on the Donelson's, which would be as good as the Howard data. Both the Howard and Donelson are for the same party, and if we can only get a connection, I feel sure I can do the rest. Of course you know I have not said any thing about this, nor wont till I see my way clear with the missing data. The Cory one looked so much brighter when I was down there, is the reason I said nothing about these others. Then again the King line would be easy for me, if I could only find the records I am looking for. You understand of course I could do nothing with these without your help, but rest assured that any one of the above lines (present representative) would be perfectly agreeable to you, I am sure. Will talk these over with you when I see you again. I am sorry I cannot help you more with the Dan Hill line, that is with D.A.R. data for him. His brothers William, Robert, Joel & Joshua all had services which I know about, but so far I have found nothing for Dan. Do you think you could get your cousin interested in C.D. data on this line? Be sure and extract a promise from her not ot pass on this D.A.R. data, but refer any one wanting it, to you or me. I know I can depend on you about this. I don’t happen to have Wheelers Reminiscences, but know from experience that he is faulty and cant always be depended on. The William Hill Jr., he says was eight years old at the Battle of Guildford Court House, was a son of William Hill Jr. (eldest son of Wm. Sr.) This Wm. H. 3rd, was the third Secy. of State of N.C. for 40 years. My line comes through Wm. Hill 2nd and I know how much trouble this reference in Wheelers gave me. Have you a friend who could get the Colonial service of a "Halbert" in the Va. Dames? This Halbert is said to have been a descendant of Pocahontas. He is in my line through the wife of Wm. H. 2nd, and I think I could use this to good advantage, besides having it for my sisters. I do not know that his Halbert service has been used, but am told it has. ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved.
