P. O. Box 226 Harriman, Tennessee January 24, 1927. Mrs. E. L. Dew 421 South 4th Street Okemah, Okla. My dear Mrs. Dew:- I am in receipt of your letter of the 20th regard- ing your Hill family records and regret to advise that I am not in position to aid you in tracing further you ascending line. I have much data of my Hill family and find among my records several Reuben's, but none born as early as 1761, therefore I am unable to help you. I have some old correspondence in my files in which a Mr. W. Lair Hill, Atty. at Law, 957 Broadway, Rooms 30-34, Oakland, Calif., gave some data of his family, as follows: "my father was Reuben Cole- man Hill, born in 1809 in the State of Ky., but reared in middle Tenn., married Margaret C. Lair, daughter of Wm. Lair in Ky., lived in Mc Nairy Co., Tenn., then moved to Mississippi, then again in McNairy Co., Tenn.; in 1847 moved to Barry Co., Mo., came over the plains to Cali- fornia in 1850, leaving his family at home. Went to Oregon in 1851; then overland back home in 1852; then again crossed the plains in 1853, this time to Oregon bringing his family - lived in Oregon from 1853 to the time of his death which occurred on Dec. 31, 1890. He had two brothers, George who is older, and Hanks N., who is younger than him- self; a sister named Sarah; and I think other brothers and sisters, but I cannot state their names." This letter was written in 1903. By getting in touch with this Mr. Lair Hill you might get some addition- al data of your Hill family, but I very much doubt it, as he seemed to tell all he knew in this letter. From your chart I think you have made a mistake in giving the date of your birth as 1842, and that of your father as 1837. I merely mention this, in order that you may change it before sending it to any other person. I am sorry not to be able to help you, but I have nothing in my records that will help you further. I have so many calls for assistance with family records, if I helped all who ask for help, I would not have time for any work at all. I am compelled to work for my living, which I very much regret as I would like to spend all my time at this work. If you care to go to the expense of making a search for data of your ascending Hill family line, I think I can arrange to do the work for you, but of course can make no promises as to the outcome, as I have never followed this particular Hill family. Regretting that I am unable to help you and wishing you much success in your undertaking, I am Yours very truly, (Mr.) C. K.
