Chickamauga, Ga. Sept. 22nd, 1920. Mr. C.K. Hill, Harriman, Tenn. My dear Mr. Hill, Unusual circumstances in my family affairs prevented a prompt reply to your inquiry. I am intensely interested in finding all I can of the genealogy of my own ancestors and always glad to give any data I have to help others establish their lines. However, you have been incorrectly informed about my being a descendant of the Russell family. My husband is a descendant of William Beau, and if it be true, that his wife was Lydia, or Rachel Russell, then I would say we are connected with the Russells. I have no data of the Russells, other than given in the Bowen, Pilchen and Russell Book, compiled by Mrs. J. S. Pilchen of Nashville. I find about thirty two pages in that book of Russell data, but do not find a George Russell. If you have not seen this sketch, you might find in it something helpful in your quest. I am a member of the Nancy Ward Chapter DAR Chattanooga. I am interested in Colonial Records also, as I would like to establish the lines, in my own and my husband’s families. It is very hard to do because of the few family records preserved by the Va., North C. and Tenn. settlers. I am interested in families of West’s, Oliphants, Amos, Stanfield, Bowen, Bean, Jones, Miller, Thomas, and Shultz, also, the McDonalds and McNens of Virginia. Should you want a copy of any records that might be at Rutledge, Grainger Co. Tenn., I suggest that our Mr. Drury Shaver might be able to make the search for you. He is not a genealogist—His charge would be ? all. As I said before, I am slowly working on Colonial Records and I will make a note of the names you give. If I find any thing, I will be pleased to send this information. I am sorry I can not, at present be of any assistance. Cordially Mrs. A. S.
