Harriman, Tennessee, June 5, 1924. My dear Mrs. Carrington:- To-day in looking for some other papers, I came across the enclosed data of the Russell family, from which you will see that I had Mrs. Clement of Chatham make a search of the Pittsylvania records trying to get proof of the ascending line of my ancestor Capt. George Russell, born in Va. -----, died in Grainger Co. Tenn. 1798 (Capt. in the Revolution & his will is on record there) His wife was Elizabeth, who we think was Elizabeth Bean sister or daughter of Capt. Wm. Bean. All these people came to Tennessee from Pittsylvania County Va., or at least they are supposed to have. I know it is useless to ask you to take good care of these papers and return to me as soon as you have finished with them. I had overlooked the fact that Mrs. Clement advised my looking into Halifax County records for further data of the ancestry of my George Russell, but I do hope you[r] new book will have all the data I am looking for and will prove my ascending Russell line, but if it does not, can you assist me in any way? I will await with interest your reply and do hope you can furnish me with the desired data. That George Russell belonged to the well known Russell family of Virginia., I have no doubt, but just when or how we are to prove it is the question. I am in work to my eyes and I suppose you are too, but I know you will help me if you can. With every good wish for you always, I am, Your friend, [handwritten] Geo Russell DAR paper Mrs Clement’s notes of Pitts Co records C.K.
