[page one] Memphis Jan. 14 – 25 My dear Mrs. Davis: Returned from a trip last night, and in my mail found your letter of Jan. 9th; also one from our President-General – Mrs. Robert G. Hogan, - containing the enclosed permit for insignia of “Order of the Crown of America.” The delay – and “mixup” came from the unusual procedure of sending initiation fee. Of course it is all right; but they are usually made to the Treas-Gen. and sent to Sec’y-Gen. so she can enroll the name upon the books of the “Order,” and forward cheque to the Treas-Gen. Mrs. Hogan writes, she received your check Oct. 27m 1924; entered your name and [page two] sent the check to Treas-Gen. She wrote me to notify you of your acceptance; but-I overlooked her saying she had “enrolled” your name. So it was my stupidity in not reading her letter more carefully. (I have re-read her letter and find the error was mine!) The usual method is to tell the Sec’y of the acceptance; then she is to notify the applicant and ask that initiation fee (made payable to Treas-Gen.) be sent her, that she may enroll the name as a member. With regret— Hastily (Mrs. Thomas) Mary Robertson Day Secretary-General “Order of the Crown” ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2006.
