[page one] (embossed seal of the NATIONAL SOCIETY Daughters of DAUGHTERS OF THE BARONS OF RUNNEMEDE the Barons of Runnemede) March 31st, 1926. PRESIDENT MRS. ROBERT G. HOGAN OAK GRANGE CATONSVILLE, MARYLAND Another year has passed and once more I have the pleasure and privilege of extending cordial greetings to the Daughters of the Barons of Runnemede. You will be interested to learn that we are rapidly becoming nationally known. Though few in number, and among organizations near the bottom of the ladder in years of rank, we are never-the-less number one in romantic traditions and historic interests. Many are the inquiries concerning us, and from different section of the country requests have been received for information regarding membership procedure or for names of Americans through whom membership can be derived, and in some instances even asking for the names of our members. Also many notices containing various requests have been received. The interesting fact connected with the reception of these inquiries and notices is the knowledge that our organization is becoming well and favorably known without any endeavor on our part. Indeed we have been exceptionally retiring and conservative, growing slowly but surely, preferring stability and distinction to quick increase in number or recognition. Our members are women of distinction and the best social environment, many of whom are nationally prominent. This is as we desire, not however, in arrogance or a belittling snobbishness, but in the sense of an aristocratic exclusiveness, which tends toward harmonious understanding of a just pride in a noble descent with all its responsibilities so aptly expressed in “Noblesse Oblige”. [page two] 2 Membership must be acquired by invitation endorsed by the Council of twenty-five Sureties, therefore, thoughtful care should be observed in making nominations. We want growth and an extended and elevating influence, but realize that such an influence can only be attained and cherished by a membership of the highest type of womanhood. The distinction and traditions which are ours through inheritance from those valorous old Barons must never be forgotten by admission to our ranks of unworthy descendants. We request from each member, a short sketch of her American Ancestor through whom membership in the Society is derived. Please send these sketches to the President. Eventually we expect to have them published. While it is desirable these sketches contain interesting traditions relating to these Ancestors, the main thing to be observed in writing them is accuracy, in so far as possible, of dates and events with the Authority for same. Earnestly trusting that each member will recognize her obligation to membership by special endeavor to attend the Annual Meeting and Luncheon, I am Cordially and faithfully yours, Cornelia S. Hogan, President. Mrs. Robert G. Hogan, “Oak Grange”, Catonsville, Md. [page three] Please Read Carefully.
