WEP "THRIVE BY THRIFT, BUY WAR SAVINGS STAMPS". OFFICE OF THE DIRECTOR CSS DEPARTMENT OF COMMERCE BUREAU OF THE CENSUS WASHINGTON November 6, 1918. Dear Sir: Referring to your letter of October 28, 1918, and my reply of October 31st, regarding the family of Joab Hill: I am giving you, on the enclosed schedule, a copy of the data returned for the only head of a family named Joab Hill found enumerated in the schedules for McMinn County, Tennessee, at the Census of 1830. The schedules for McMinn County, Tennessee, as returned at the censuses of 1840 and 1850, have been carefully examined but we fail to find any person named Joab Hill enumerated therein. At the censuses prior to and including that of 1840 only the names of the heads of families were returned, together with the number of members of the family returned by certain age groups and by sex. Very respectfully, Sam. F*. Rogers Director. Mr. R. B. Cassell, Attorney at Law, Harriman, Tennessee.
