Harriman, Tenn. Dec. 13, 1917. County Clerk, Orange, Va. Dear Sir:-I am addressing you to know if you can give me some information I am very anxious to get? I do not expect you to give me this information free, as I am sure you are called on many times for such data, and I am willing to pay you what ever is right for doing this work. Let me know what it will cost. In the Census of 1790 for Orange County, Va., there are listed 2 William Strothers, one in the list of Benj. Grymes and the other in the list of Catlett Conway. Are either one of these William Strother's the father of Jane, who married Thomas Lewis, Elizabeth, who married John Frogge, Sr., and Agatha, who married John Madison? There were other sisters of the three named above, and I want to know if they too married, and to whom, and the dates? I am trying to get the line of descent of a John Frogge, born and reared in Virginia, who married Lucretia Miller. They had several children, as follows; William, born 1796, Cornelius Mitchell, born 1799, Arthur, born 1801, John, born 1804, Elizabeth, Cynthia, Rebecca (Lewis?) and Mary, I am not able to give the dates of birth of the girls. While these children were small the family moved to Cumberland Co., Ky., where to this day the name STROTHER FROGGE is still in existence. This family of Froggs is connected with the Strother family in some way, and I must find how, and I know of no way outside of the records of your County. Could it be possible that John Frogge, Sr., married first Elizabeth Strother, and second Lucretia Miller? If you cannot go into this matter for me, won't you please see if you can get some one there who is familiar with this kind of work to take it up with me? Surely what I am looking for can be had from the old records of your County. Thanking you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter, and hoping you can take up the work for me, I am, Yours very truly, CKH/K ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
