FORM 100/14 STATE OF MARYLAND CENTRAL PURCHASING BUREAU ALBERT H. WEIR, ROBERT A. ATKINSON PURCHASING AGENT ASST. PURCHASING AGENT 22 LIGHT STREET - BALTIMORE Apr. 4th 1921 My dear Mr. Hill: I certainly am due you many apologies for my long delay in replying to your letter of Nov. 29th. I had put it aside to be answered just as soon as I could find the time to go through my Lane genealogical papers. I simply have never had the time until yesterday to do that. I have been so occupied for the past four months trying to get this new State Dept. organized & running that it has taken absolutely all my time and I could not find the time to make the search thru my papers for the information you desired. I did however do this yesterday after receipt of yours of the28th inst. I can find no record of the marriage of Sarah dau. of Rev. Tidence Lane. His will dated July 2 1805 mentions dau. Sarah--but that is all I have on the subject. His will is (page 2) Recorded in Jefferson Co. Tenn. on Dand- ridge Book #1 pp 90 & 91. The marriage record of that county might disclose the name of the man his dau. Sarah married. That is the only way I know to trace it. If Mrs. Landstreet or Miss Hull would give you her line up to then perhaps we could get another clue. The witnesses to this Rev. Tidence Lane's will were Caleb Witt who was also a ? to Wm Horner. Sometimes these witnesses give a clue. Mrs. P. R. Jenkins of Spring City, Tenn might be able to give some information. She is a descendant of Rev. Tidence Lane. I am sorry I can not help further. Am always glad to help on such matters when I can but unfortunately of late I have been so much occupied with other matters I could not devote any time to genealogy. It is a most absorbing study but one must just stick to that and nothing else to accomplish any thing with it. If your friend can give other clues of names & dates I will be glad to see if my records show any thing that would connect them. (page 3) I note the good work you are doing for the cause & certainly both Mrs. Schleicher & I appreciate your disposition to give us the advantage of any new discoveries. Some day--after I've been able to earn enough to enable me to do so, I want to just do the genealogy work & nothing else but it takes a lot of time and considerable money. I note your references to Dutton Lane-- have examined the records here in the Church House & he is quite frequently & prominently mentioned--but I never went any further of additional lines. I simply proved my point on Maj. Samuel Olen. ???? Please allow me at this late date to thank you for your Xmas card which I much appreciated. It was indeed very thoughtful of you. I am glad to ? how you * at any time if you will only pardon my delay in answering. I hope soon not to be so busy & can give you quicker replie. With very best wishes, I am, Sincerely R. A.
