Harriman, Tennessee, Nov. 16, 1920. Mr. R. A. Atkinson, 221 N. Liberty St., Baltimore, Md. Dear Mr. Atkinson:- Quite a time has passed since I last wrote you, and still I have found nothing more for our Lane files. You will recall I wrote you on Aug. 2nd, that I had sent Dr. Culver a sum of money for which he said he would furnish addition- al data for a supplementary Colonial Dames paper, in the Lane line. I sent the money, and after waiting all this time, Dr. C. writes after an extensive search he can find no additional data for a C.D. paper in our Lane line. He has, so he says, found that Sarah Christian, dau. of Col. Josias Toogood, married Richard Lane of Calvert County, and our Richard being from Baltimore Co., eliminates the Toogood family. He says he will keep the maiden name of Sarah, wife of our Richard, in mind and hopes to yet run across it, although he has searched the marriage records at Annapolis. I have also had Miss A. Eleanor Hull (The Arundel of Balto.) work- ing trying to find that D.A.R. officer in the Lane line for Mrs. Schleicher, but so far she has found nothing except that Ester Bibber is down in the St. Paul Parish records as Esther Bobby. I fear the officer cannot be found, but am not content to stop trying to find at least one more C.D. ancestor. Miss Hull is working for a Mrs. Landstreet of Richmond, Va., who descends from Sarah, (daughter of Rev. Tidence) who married Zacharia Mc Cubbins. To-day I had a letter from her (Miss Hull) asking how much I would charge for proof that Sarah was a daughter of Tidence and for a copy of my sister's D.A.R. papers on his services. I sent her a copy of the D.A.R. paper like the one I sent you, also a copy of the will of Rev. Tidence Lane. She seems very anxious to get everything possible on the Lane family. I have been wondering if it would not help thing very nuch if Miss Hull had a copy of the C.D. papers of Mrs. Schleicher, but of course did not send it. I appreciate the fact that she could use this paper for Mrs. Landstreet, but wouldn't it be a big help and save much time and expense, if she knew exactly what had been verified by the Md. Colonial Dames? If she had a copy of this paper, then she could spend her time in working for data for additional C.D. papers, and not be going over the line as you had it verified. This is just a suggestion, and I would be so very glad to know what you think about it, and of course will do exactly as you say. I wrote Miss Hull and asked her if she would pay any thing for a copy of the Lane C.D. papers, but have not heard from her yet. I shall not give or sell this paper, without instructions from you, so if you care to sell it, what shall I ask? ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
