Harriman, Tennessee, Nov. 29, 1920. Mr. R. A. Atkinson, 221 N. Liberty St., Baltimore, Md. Dear Mr. Atkinson:- Your letter of the 29th received, for which accept my thanks. I appreciate just how you feel about the matter of giving Miss Hull a copy of Mrs. Schleicher's Colonial Dames papers, and I do not think you are a stingy grouch, either. Mrs. Landstreet has never written me regarding the matter, but Miss Hull was working for me trying in the first place to run down a Rev. War Officer for Mrs. Schleicher. She did not find the officer, but encouraged me by saying she thought she might trace the family of Esther Bibber (Bibbin) wife of Tidence Lane. She went over the St. Paul's Parish records and states that the name is down as Bobby, and I had her go ahead with the search, hoping to prove some thing in that line. The money I had sent her gave out and I was too busy to write her at the time, but did later sending her another $15.00. She seems to think it best to try to estab- lish the maiden name of Sarah, wife of Richard Lane of Balti- more County, and is now waiting for instructions from, as to which line to take up. What do you think it? Dr. Culver wrote saying he could furnish an additional C. D. ancestor in the Lane line for $15.00, which I sent, but after he went into the line again he could not find one. He worked on the question as to the maiden name of Sarah, wife of Richard of Balto. Co., but he says he does not think it can be proven. He did prove that Christian Toogood married Richard Lane of Calvert Co., but this Richard was a cousin of our Richard of Balto. Co., and does us no good. Truly I do not know which is the best line to work on, and if you care to make a suggestion, I will be glad to have it. I have not, nor shall pass on the C.D. papers you sent me, without your permission, or instructions to do so. If Miss Hull is willing to pay $15.00 for them, I shall send it to you, as I would have no right to it, whatever. Right here let me ask if you have copies of the Bible records taken from the family Bible of Rev. Tidence Lane? If so, does the record say Sarah, daughter of Tidence & Esther Lane married Zacariah McCubbins? If you can furnish proof that the Sarah Lane who married Z. McCubbins was a daughter of Rev. Tidence, I think Miss Hull will pay almost any reasonable price for it. Let me hear from you, when you have time. ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved.
