Trinity College, Hartford, Connecticut, July 5, 1924. Dear Mr. Hill, I enclose rough pencil copies of pedigrees from Browning’s “Americans of Royal Descent”. It seems to be the desired Isham royal and Magna Charta descent, though the Magna Charta Baron traced to is de Quincey rather than de Vere. I have not been able to trace the de Vere Magna Charta descent so far. I suppose it is all down in Browning’s Magna Charta book, but I have not been able to find a copy of that in Hartford. I can see it if you want more Barons for your record when I go to New York or Philadelphia. I imagine you have several; when one finds one, he is apt to find more-it is like royal lines. If you have any, you are likely to have many. Mr. Browning would know about them, and if you tell him of this pedigree from his Royal Descent book, or indeed give him your line back to the Isham immigrant, he is likely to credit you on the records of the Society with the others, simply giving references to the pedigrees in the Magna Charta book. Trusting that this will give you what you want before you write to Mr. Browning, and assuring you I shall be glad to pursue the subject further if you wish when I go to New York or Philadelphia, I am Very sincerely yours (signed) Arthur Adams Note: As one might expect, Mr. Browning’s work is not impeccable. Numerous mistakes have been found in his books. I have myself found two mistaken lines. Part of this pedigree, not the Isham part, is found in Water’s ”Chester of Chicheley”, Vol.1, pp. 48-50. On the whole, it seems well documented. ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved.
