Harriman, Tennessee, April 18, 1921. My dear Miss Kingsbury:- Thank you so much for your letter of the 12 enclosing the letter from Mrs. Bernard. First let me say in regard to my sisters papers, that I was in Knoxville last week and learned that the Tenn. C.D. Society will not have another meeting until some time in May, which is as I understand it the annual meeting. They have not had a meeting since sisters papers went in, so I suppose it will get to you some time. If there is any thing you can do to get it through before the season is over, I will appreciate it very much, but please don’t go to any extra trouble about it. Well since I last wrote you I have secured a copy of the Reese book, which says, Soloman T. Reese, 9th child of David & Susan Polk Reese was born in Mecklenburg County N.C. 1757, married Harriet Jack (sister of James Jack who volunteered to carry the Mecklenburg Declaration to Philadelphia) and had two sons, James jack Reese, and George Reese. “This family emigrated to Tenn. and nothing further is known of them.” I have the address of an authority on the Jack Family records, so I am going to try there for proof of the fact that James Reese was a grandson of Soloman T. Reese and wife Harriet jack Reese. I will let you know about this later. I am enclosing a rough chart showing the line of descent of my friend Mrs. Durell from Hugh Porter & wife Violet Mackey and the sister of Violet Mackey Porter (Mollie) who was the mother of James Reese who married Elizabeth Brown. Please look over this and advise me if you can give me any references and services for either Porter’s or Wm. Brown, since you cannot find any thing for Joseph Brown. I have been told there is a C.D. claim in this Porter family, and I think it has been used, and I will be so glad if you can get it for me. I wont have any trouble to prove this line of ascent or descent as the case may be, given on this chart. Hoping you can give me the desired services in the Porter line, and that I may hear from you soon, I am, Cordially yours, CKH/K PS/ I will write to Mr. Pope Reese of Pensacola. ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
