MRS. WILLIS HITZING CHERRYWOLD WHITEHAVEN, TENN. My dear Mrs. Davis ; Last December I was appointed Organizing State President for the Founders and Patriots Society, but being the state president of the Daughters of 1812 at the time, I did not try to form the organization until my term had expired for the 1812 Society. Now I am beginning to work seriously, and seeing your name in the year book as a member, I am writing to ask you to be so kind as to transfer from the national society to the state society. I am very anxious to have all the members residing in the state to become charter members, and hope that you will join with us in promoting this new society. There are six members (beside myself) and only nine are required to start a chapter, so I hope that we may get our charter before the first (page two) of the year. As you know, this will never be such a large organization as it is too difficult for most women to carry the same name all the way back. There are only a few states that have not formed chapters and we hope to soon have Tennessee taken from that list, so awaiting to have a favorable answer from you, I am, Sincerely yours, Bessie Hitzing.
