STATE OF TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF LIBRARY, ARCHIVES AND HISTORY NASHVILLE JOHN TROTWOOD MOORE DIRECTOR July 8th, 1921. Mr. C. K. Hill, Harriman, Tennessee. My dear sir: I am in receipt of your letter of June 28th, asking if I can assist you in finding the names of the parents of James Reese of Jefferson County. I have very little genealogical data in this department though I am collecting all I am able to secure for just such purposes as your letters requires. I have had for months an order at a second-hand book store for a copy of Godspeed’s History of the East Tennessee counties, including Jefferson and Washington, Greene, ets., but have not yet received them. At present I have no data of these counties and can find nothing of assistance to you in Knox County History. I regret so much that I cannot help you, but I will have my secretary make a note of it and if anything comes to light on the subject I will forward you the information. David Reese of North Carolina spelled his name as you do and he was one of the signers of Mecklenburg Declaration. The two states being sister states and so many of our early settlers came from there it might be worth your while to investigate the name in that State. There is in Hale’s History of Tennessee a short sketch of Dr. Oregon W. Reese, Bransford, Tennessee, born 1856, son of William J. Reese, Macon County, Tennessee, grandson of Jacob Silas Reese of North Carolina. There was also a Captain Ed Reese of Nashville, in the Confederate army. You will know if these are family names. Wishing you success in your research I am, Sincerely, J.T. Moore Director. ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved.
