(printed North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati logo) John C. Daves, Vice-President 214 Chamber of Commerce, Baltimore, Md. May 31, 1920. Mr. C.K. Hill, Harriman, Tenn. My dear Mr. Hill:- I duly received your letter of the 26” inst. and later on the pamphlet, containing the very scholarly and interesting address of Judge Smith, which I had never seen before and which throws an entire new light on the service of Thomas Sumter, who was undoubtedly the Colonel of the 6th Regiment South Carolina Continental Infantry, a regiment, whose records have been lost. As Colonel Sumter was not an original member of any State Society, he would come under the Rule of 1854, and the applicant in a collateral line could apply for membership in our North Carolina Society, if he so desires. I shall keep the booklet until I hear from you further on the subject. I am very glad to be of whatever assistance I can be to you in this matter. I hope to mail you shortly the Roster of the General Society for the Triennial year of 1920. Believe me, Sincerely yours, John C. Daves Vice-President ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved. Archivist: Transcription and scan by G. Anne Sloan
