(printed North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati logo) John C. Daves, Vice-President 214 Chamber of Commerce, Baltimore, Md. June 29, 1920. Mr. C.K. Hill, Harriman, Tenn. My dear Mr. Hill:- This is the first chance I have had of answering your letters of June 2 and 24, as the Triennial Meeting of the General Society of the Cincinnati held in New Hampshire this month took up every spare minute of my time which I could spare and I had to set all else aside. The General Society did me the honor to promote me to the office of Secretary General, which I had been filling, in fact, since the death of my senior officer over a year ago. I think you are giving yourself needless concern about your membership in our Society, I know that at the time of your application for membership in our Society, I went very thoroughly and carefully into your claim and found it perfectly valid and correct; it would be impossible for me to cover this again. Why do you not transfer to the right of Colonel Thomas Sumter and have your kinsman take up your Hill right. Capt. George Russell, Lieut. Isaac Lane and Capt. William Sumter, had only service in the Militia, which would not entitle their descendants to representation in the Society of the Cincinnati. I suppose you received the Roster of the General Society, which I mailed you early in this month. Sincerely yours, John C. Davis Vice-President. ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved. Archivist: Transcription and scan by G. Anne Sloan
