Dear Mr. Hill:-

   I have long delayed answering your letter of July 3”, as
I have been busy at the office with the men off on their
holidays, and then besides I had to print the minutes of
the General Meeting and now those of our State Meeting,
which I hope to mail to you next week.

   Why do you not get some male member of that old lady,
who you write is descended from Lieut. Wm. Hill, to take
up the right which you now fill, and then you could take
up the right of Col. Sumter.

   I hope to get away for a vacation in Canada on Sept. 4”
and I shall not be back until some time in October.
