My dear Mr. Daves:- In you letter of 5/21/20, you stated that a descendant in a collateral line could apply for membership in the North Carolina Society of the Cincinnati, under the Rule of 1854, on the services of Colonel Thomas Sumter, 6th Regiment South Carolina Continental Infantry. Please forward application blanks for this purpose, to me. They will be used by Mr. Polk Tarwater, of Rockwood, Tenn., Great Great Great Grandnephew of Col. Thomas Sumter. Mr. Tarwater, as well as myself, descends from Capt. William Sumter. of Burke County, N.C., brother of Col. Thomas Sumter. Col. Sumter lived at one time in Burke County N.C. Mr. Tarwater is a prominent banker, and will make a very fine member of our N.C. Society.
