Society of the Cincinnati, of Mr. Polk Tarwater of Rockwood, Tennessee. With it is a copy of the line of ascent of Mr. Tarwater to Capt. William Sumter, brother of Col. Thomas Sumter, which I will ask you to fill in on the application blank, Also a sketch on the Sumter family and the booklet on Col. Sumter, by Judge Smith, to be filed with Mr. Tarwater’s papers. I am not enclosing Mr. Tarwater’s check for membership fee, till notice of his election has been sent, at which time it will be forwarded at once. The notice may be sent direct to him or to me. I regret to say that I do not expect to attend the annual meeting on April 23rd, as I am laid up with a sprained ankle at this time. The Doctors say it may be weeks before I can get about again.
