Harriman, Tennessee. April 10, 1918. Mr. John C. Daves, Baltimore, Md. My dear Mr. Daves:- In reply to your letter of the 8th, will say that I do not know that I am eligible to the Society of Cincinnati, and that is the reason I wanted data on the requirements for membership. I am a great great grand-son of Lieutenant Isaac Lane, who served under Colonel John Sevier, in Washington Co., N.C., since Tennessee. I am also a great great great grand-son of Capt. William Sumpter (brother of General Sumpter) of Burke County, N.C. Would either of these officers make me eligible to membership, and what are the requirements? If so, I want to join on the Lieut. Lane line and a cousin who is the same relation to Capt. Sumpter, would like to join on that line. Thanking you in advance for your prompt attention to this matter, I am, Yours very truly, CKH/K ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
