(stamped) MAY 11 1918 (Mr. Lane wrote in his own handwriting at the top of Mr. Hill’s letter his reply:—transcriptionist) My dear Mr. Hill- I have no data or information about the Lanes or Russells, except that Lieutenant George Russell was in the N.C. Militia at Kings Mt. in Oct. 1780. Truly yours, John C. Daves V.P. (Mr. Hill wrote the following letter:—transcriptionist) Harriman, Tennessee, May 3, 1918. Mr. John C. Daves, Baltimore, Md. My dear Mr. Daves:- Your letter of April 22nd received, for which accept my thanks. While I will admit that I am disappointed with the facts your letter brings, I am glad to know the exact situation. Lieutenant Isaac Lane married Sarah Russell in Washington County, N.C., now Tennessee, but so far I have not been able to learn the names of her parents. In “Drapers” Kings Mountain and Its Heroes, are mentioned three Russells, Gen. Wm. Russell, Col. Wm. Russell, Jr., and Lieut. or Capt. George Russell. Some where I have seen the statement that Lieut. Lane married the daughter of his Colonel, but I am of the opinion that he married the daughter of his Captain, and I am wondering if you could help me to establish this point? I know that Lieut. Lane served under Capt. George Russell, but I do not know when or where Capt. Russell died, and have been unable to locate his will or any records of his family. If you can assist me in any way on this point, I will appreciate it very much. Thanking you in advance, and with best wishes, I am, Yours very truly, C.K.
