Harriman, Tennessee, June 24, 1920. Hon. John C. Daves, 214 Chamber of Commerce, Baltimore, Md. Dear Mr. Daves:- Since writing you on the 2nd, I have been busy making investigations regarding the services in the Rev. War of Capt. George Russell and Lieut. Isaac Lane, and have this to report. From the pension declaration of Agnes Lane, widow of Aquilla Lane, (brother of Lieut. Isaac Lane) she states that Aquilla Lane enlisted in Capt. Russell’s company in 1779, Colonel Christians regiment, and that he lived in Orange County Va. when he enlisted. I am sending this in hopes that the records of Col. Christian might help to prove Continental services for Capt. Russell and Lieut. Lane. I was in Knoxville last week and hoped to see the lady who has the Colonial Dames papers verified on the services of Lieut. Wm. Hill of N.C., but she had an engagement and could not see me, but promised to send me her papers just as soon as she could get around to it. They have not come yet. Have you been able to do any thing for my yet? I am sorry to bother you with this matter, but surely you must know what an embarrassing situation I am in. Is there not some thing I can do for you, to repay you in a measure, for all the kindnesses you have shown me? With every kind thought and best wishes, I am, Cordially yours, CKH/K ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005. All rights reserved.
