Harriman, Tennessee, July 3, 1920. Hon. John C. Daves, 214 Chamber of Commerce, Baltimore, Md. Dear Sir:- I heartily approve of the action of the General Society, in making you Secretary General. Please accept my congratulations, for I know you will fill the office well. Regarding my membership in the Society, I would be very glad to transfer to the right of Colonel Sumter and let my kinsman take up the Hill right, but unfortunately he is not a descendant of the Hill family, being related on my maternal side. If you will be so good as to suggest just how to take up this Hill right, I will be only too glad to go into the matter more thoroughly and see just what I can prove. I appreciate the fact that you are a busy man and have not the time to go over this ground again. Since looking over the records belonging to the lady I spoke of before, I am pretty certain that Lieut. William Hill, 1st Reg. N.C. Continental Troops, was from Bertie County and is her ancestor and not mine or the William Hill of Rockingham County, who was Chaplain in the American Army at the Battle of Guildford Court House. I will appreciate the favor if you will suggest the course to persue regarding the Hill right. Thanking you for the Roster of the General Society, and for all past favors, I am, Most sincerely yours, CKH/K ================================================== Transcription copyright © RoaneTNHistory.org 2005.
