Mr dear Mr. Hill:

     There seems to be some misapprehension.
My duties in the Society of the Colonial Wars
are confined to substantiating the genealogic
claim of the applicant, and this, as you perceive,
has been already done.  Mr. Robinson, as Secretary,
was to have written you fully, and I presume did so
write you, concerning the requisite endorsements,
which is a matter not at all in my province.

     I am in consequence returning your papers, and
trusting soon to see the matter satisfactorily arranged
and to have the pleasure of welcoming you into the
Society, I remain
