A comment on Snowden's view-point: the Snowden family had received a very large land grant in Maryland from Lord Baltimore and Charles II of England. He tries very hard to not show his bias and to report only the facts, as he says in his introduction. However, he never calls the American revolutionaries 'patriots,' but instead calls them 'provincials.' Snowden's bias is as evident as mine.
When inserting an editor's comment
, I included the comment between curly brackets, i. e. {comment}.
Printers in earlier times sometimes put a space before every semi-colon, colon, question mark and exclamation mark. I find these disconcerting and left the space out for easier reading by modern readers.
